Since 2004, a team representing the U.S. Department of Labor has participated in the annual Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay (B2V).
Due to the popularity of the race over the years, a second DOL team was formed after the 2015 B2V. That team is known as "Team Black" and first competed in the 2016 B2V.
Since then, Team Black has participated in the annual B2V , the world’s most prestigious & unique law enforcement relay race. It is the largest law enforcement athletic event in the world drawing over 280 teams annually to compete in a grueling 120 mile relay race.
Team Black is made up of members from WHD, OASAM, EBSA, OALJ, OLMS, OFCCP, OSHA, OIG, BLS, OWCP, VETS & the SOL. Team Black has no official affiliation with the U.S. Department of Labor, other than the fact that the members are made up primarily of active or retired employees of the department.
In 2017, Team Black placed 8th in the Invitational Mixed 800 division and earned its first mug! This is a significant event, since Team Black only competed in two B2V races.
In 2018, Team Black placed 7th in the Invitational Mixed 800 Division and earned its second mug. Of the three years in B2V competition, Team Black has earned 2 mugs!!
During the 2019 B2V, Team Black finished 25th out of 46 very tough teams. Although we didn't earn a mug, we finished with a time of 17:47:20, which was our second fastest time ever.
Although we looked forward to the 2020 and 2021 races, both were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
We completed the 2022 B2V with a time of 19:03:38. No injuries or penalties!
Also, we completed the 2023 B2V with a time of 19:08:46 and had no injuries or penalties.
Chuck Foote and fellow Los Angeles Police Department officer Larry Moore created the race back in 1984.
